Some Evening Photos

Before I forget to post them, here are some photos taken on June 1.  We had a huge wind-storm that day, with gusts up to 72 km/h observed at Dorval Airport.  We went from a high of nearly 30C to a low hovering around 12C that evening, all in the matter of a few hours.  With the open fields right beside our house, when it's windy, it's windy.  I figured it was a great opportunity to cut the grass, since the strong winds carried the grass away, rather than leaving the clippings in a rotting pile.  We're not that sophisticated yet - just getting the lawn cut is a challenge, never mind picking up clippings.
The field across from our farm was plowed and planted that day.  Crop rotation is not happening here, and I'll eat my hat if it's something other than corn.  It was a good thing the windows were closed that day, or we'd be walking around on sandy floors.  I can only imagine how much dust was churned up during the planting with the gusting winds.

Things are starting to get tidier outside.  Considering I spent three evenings in a row mowing, they better:
The sky was glorious.  The setting sun lit the clouds, and on an evening like this, all is okay in my world.
I've still got a lot of work to do towards the barn.  We have a row of apple trees here that get damaged by the huge machinery that drives by during planting and harvest-time.  They're not in the best of health, and I'm going to try and root some of the branches using a rooter pot system I bought at Lee Valley years ago, and haven't gotten around to using.  This year is the year.  I'll be sure to let you know how things go with blow-by-blow details.

My buddy Cooper is never far:
He's my partner-in-crime.  Nothing happens unless The Foreman is around to supervise.  Honestly, I'm not even sure what the flowering shrubs are.  I know the one on the right is a cranberry bush viburnum.  We've got a few blooming on the property, and the cedar wax-wings love the berries in the winter.  Again, on the to-do list is pruning it back, as it's gotten a bit out of control.  Popina loves to hide underneath it, as some of the trailing branches have started to root themselves.  It must be like a playground for her!

The high winds pushed the beautiful clouds all over the skies.  It was hard to keep track of the scenery because, with each passing minute, the high-lighting changed.  We had another glorious sunset, and thankfully, the wind was a harbinger of nice weather.

How pretty. I love summer nights. Hmm...or maybe I should say I love spring nights that remind me of summer. :)

Well, Robin, someone flipped the summer switch on, as we've had prohibitively hot days lately. We went up to 31C today, which worked out to 38C with the humidex. That's 100F. Just sweltering. A huge storm system rolled through, and we got only a bit of rain out of it. Mercifully, it's down to 21C or 70F now, and once the house cools down a bit, we should be comfortable until the next wave hits!
