Windy Enough for You?

Winds are currently 84 km/h gusting to 100 km/h at Montreal-Trudeau Airport.

And it's well past 1:00 AM, and yes, I really should be in bed.  Remember the scene in "The Exorcist", where Linda Blair's bed was shaking violently?  Well, I'm not in need of an exorcism, so I don't know why the entire upstairs is quaking like it is.  It's like a 3.5 on the Richter scale, with the house is creaking from every corner in this wind.  The noise and vibration are keeping me awake.  The front door is rattling on its hinges, and even little Schatzie woke up with a start from her deaf slumber and moved to a leeward sofa.

THAT'S how bad the wind is.

Wow.  We've felt wind before, but never like this.

From time to time, the sky is filled with the bright blue light of yet another transformer blowing.  That we still have power in our rural area is nothing short of a miracle.

The night is still young.  Wish us luck.

Crazy you say? Never seen the likes of it here. It's like a hurricane out there.

I keep saying I'd like to buy an anemometer to keep track of the wind, and I think we'll have to be looking for something industrial LOL!

Thanks for stopping by!

We're getting a bit of that wind now but not nearly like you describe. We live at the top of a hill and our home is exposed to the west. The wind often disturbs my sleep at night. I hope it settles quickly. You are talking about hurricane force winds. Not nice, not nice at all. Take Care.

Here's hoping you made it through the night warm, dry, and with your roof and your power intact. Please let us know how you are!

Hi Linda, Hi Miriam!

Well, we made it through the night OK! Finally, I fell asleep at 2AM out of sheer exhaustion - Eric put his ear plugs in - and both of us managed to sleep through the rest of the storm. In 10 years here, we have NEVER seen the likes of a wind storm like this. Remarkably, our power stayed on, and today things are back to normal - if you can call -20C normal!

Tomorrow I'll walk to the barn and have a gander at how much more "ventilation" we gained in our ever-failing south side of the barn roof.

Your concern is appreciated!

That is crazy. I would be so scared. I about flip out when we have 40 mph wind storms here. My biggest fear is a tree falling on the house and smashing us. Or my dog. lol I'm glad nothing bad happened.

Robin, it was INSANE. Truly. I swear I thought the roof would come off at some points. When Schatzie woke up and looked at me for reassurance, I knew things were getting gnarly! I think if we had an anemometer, it would have read over-load LOL! I'm still looking into getting one, just for the heck of it!
